Beauty and the Brute

The mountains prospered because of the bridge, and years later, a lord occupied the mountains and was the leader over the people there. However, many warriors under the lord’s command were committing crimes and doing evil. They plundered treasure, silver, and women. The lord was complicit in this evil, and people in the mountains were miserable. Among them there was a warrior named Fuken. He had agreed to serve the lord in return for feeding him. But this did not mean he had given up on being benevolent and righteous. One day, the lord rewarded the warriors by throwing a banquet for them. Fuken left the throng of revelers, a blade in hand, and wandered the bustling streets alone. The lord summoned a girl to sing. On her way, she was harassed by a warrior in the corridors. She scolded him, “Since your sword is not used to quash evil, but is used to show off your power to the old and the weak, women and children, it is better to throw it into the fire and melt it.” Overhearing her words, Fuken was immediately concerned, so rushed over to intercept the warrior, though his own blade was still in its scabbard at this time. After Fuken had given him a few parries, the warrior sobered up and left disappointed. The girl also disappeared, but her words left a mark on Fuken’s heart. Fuken’s heart of righteousness gradually manifested itself. He tried every means to find the singer; he wanted to give her a dagger and teach her to defend herself. On the night the assassin finally made her move, the place was filled with music and Fuken unsheathed his blade. It pierced the lord’s chest, and the filth poisoning the mountains was cleansed in an instant. The righteous man Fuken had fulfilled his wish at last, so he died without any regret when he was stabbed by the other warriors who rushed to their lord’s defense. But had the mountains really been cleansed of the filth so simply?
