The Separation
Once the ancient mountain god had vanished, all the plants and flowers on the mountain withered and died. The villagers went into the mountain to guard the forests. Among them was a young man named Fuken, whose childhood sweetheart was a girl called Kasagumo. The task of guarding the mountain was tedious, so Fuken often left his team to wander the wild forests on his own. One day, a red glow appeared in the forest. Fuken went to explore and discovered a new world. Before his eyes, he found a wonderful realm of flora in a garden filled with a red glow. The scenery was beautiful. Gazing at the cherry blossoms at sunset in the mountain, he named it The Blush. Fuken guessed the realm of flora was probably where the ancient mountain god lived. He sighed sadly, thinking about how beautiful the mountain used to be. If he could protect all the plants on the mountain, the mountain god would surely return. “I want to protect this mountain with Kasaguno, and when we get married. The Blush will be a token of our eternal promise.” But, the curse of filth had already eroded his and Kasagumo’s souls. Every time they approached each other, the power of the curse grew stronger. On their wedding day, the curse spawned a scourge. The sky and the earth changed color. The earth shook, and a huge crack appeared in the mountain. The people thought the mountain god was angry and would punish them, so they pulled the two young lovers apart and imprisoned them, with Kasagumo on the mountain and Fuken at the foot of the mountain. Since that day, Fuken walked alone at the bottom of the mountain. He bowed down to all the mountains to atone for his sins. He never witnessed the recovery of his beloved plants: he collapsed from exhaustion and passed away, his heart full of regret.
